Eastern UP receives $25 million in high-speed internet grants – 9 & 10 News

Rural areas in the eastern Upper Peninsula are on the verge of high-speed Internet access thanks to $25 million in loans and grants.

On Thursday, the US Department of Agriculture announced that 20 states will share $502 million to provide internet service to rural residents and businesses.

The USDA is making the investments through third-round funding from the ReConnet Loans and Grants Program. Private companies will install broadband and set the price for the service.

“It’s independent businesses coming in,” said Mariah Goos, Community Liaison Officer for EUP Connect Collaborative. “We still have to look at it in the sense that it’s an investment for them. Yes, the customers are there. If you bring it in, they’ll sign up for it.

We encourage you to complete a survey which is essential for the program to fully benefit the region. You can complete this survey here.
