New high-speed internet is coming to rural St. Paroisse de Saint-Martin

ST. MARTIN PARISH, The. (KLFY) High-speed Internet will soon be available throughout rural St. Martin Parish.

With the groundbreaking construction of the new Cajun Broadband Fiber Internet, several government officials gathered Thursday to participate in this historic moment.

Governor John Bell Edwards made an appearance at the event and shared the importance of the movement to the people of Louisiana.

“It means a lot to St. Martin Parish, but really what it means so much progress for the whole state and what’s to come,” Edwards said.

The construction is the first of the Broadband Initiative projects funded by a GUMBO grant. (Provides unserved municipalities with broadband opportunities.)

GUMBO has a budget of more than $150,000,000 for Louisiana’s underserved communities and will help bring high-speed Internet to more than 600 locations in rural St. Martin Parish.

“It’s going to be huge for us because we want to completely bridge the digital divide by 2029.” said Governor Edwards.

“This means that every address, home and business will have access to real affordable high-speed internet by 2029.”
