Health insurance policyholders in Saudi Arabia will have 18 new benefits from October 1

Riyadh Health insurance policyholders will enjoy 18 new benefits as well as 10 enhancements to existing benefits starting October 1 this year.

The The Health Insurance Board is making final preparations to launch the benefit package as well as updating insurance coverage limits from next month.

Nasser Al-Juhani, spokesman for the council, said the maximum cover for mental health has been raised to SR50,000 from SR15,000 for acute and chronic psychiatric cases. The value of hemodialysis coverage was also raised.

He said a number of updated benefits have been added regarding exploratory preventive tests and vaccinations, in addition to focusing on women’s health, obesity operations and kidney transplantation.

The updated health insurance policy aims to achieve seven main objectives, namely to strengthen disease prevention for beneficiaries, promote health, reduce disease complications, improve the capacity of beneficiaries, facilitate access to the category of service, empowering beneficiaries and enhancing the quality and efficiency of the service.

Al-Juhani, who is also the executive director for empowerment and oversight in the council, said holders of health insurance policies issued or renewed with validity on October 1. 1 and above can benefit from these advantages.

He said recently that bariatric surgery would benefit from health insurance coverage. Al-Johani said insurance coverage for obesity operations aims to provide increasingly appropriate options for health insurance recipients in the council’s efforts to reduce obesity rates. He pointed out that the insurance coverage includes those of all age groups.
