Lixin (Lee) Song, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been named associate dean for research and scholarship in the School of Nursing. Song joined the institution on September 1. 1, 2022.
Song received her doctorate from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor and completed postgraduate training in chronic disease management at the University of North Carolina’s Chapel Hill School of Nursing, where she was a full professor and holder of the Emeritus Beerstecher-Blackwell Chair. She obtained her Masters in Nursing from Tianjin Medical University, China and the University of Ottawa, Canada.
His research focuses on cancer survivorship, family care research and technological interventions in aging patients with different types of cancer. She has been recognized for her expertise in family cancer research through her induction as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing.
Since Dec. 2016, she received federal research grants for five intervention projects as a principal investigator (or multiple principal investigator) and her work as a co-investigator on a study raised over $6.3 million in funding from the National Institutes of Health (including the National Institutes of Health Cancer Institute, National Institute of Nursing Research, and National Library of Medicine) and the Department of Defense.
Additionally, through the National Cancer Institute-sponsored Multilevel Intervention Training Institute, she develops research projects that will improve survivorship care and health outcomes for patients with cancer and their family caregivers during their care transitions after treatment.
