Sources in The Hague told The telegraph that 2023 will see health insurance premiums increase by just over 10 euros per month.

Dutch health insurance will cost 10 euros more per month in 2023

As the Dutch government prepares to announce the 2023 Prinsjesdag budget on Tuesday, an increasing amount of information about financial plans for the coming year is leaking to the Dutch press. Not only have the details of the government’s plan to increase purchasing power been revealed, but recently The telegraph reported that the price of health insurance will increase significantly from January.

According to the Dutch newspaper, insiders in The Hague have confirmed that the so-called calculation bonus (account bonus) – the figure used by insurers as a guideline for monthly rates – will increase from 127 to 137.40 euros per month. Although this is likely to affect who is covered by Dutch health insurance, the actual rates will ultimately be set by insurers.

Higher bonuses to compensate for higher wages and health costs

For several months now, the Department of Health has warned that the cost of health insurance will rise in the new year due to rising wages and health care costs, but figures reported by The telegraph marks the largest price increase since 2011. The monthly healthcare allowance will also increase in 2023, by more than 400 euros in total per year.
