According to the company, most of these areas are currently served by cable infrastructure, which lacks the capacity and download speeds that many are looking for today.

Chesapeake and Portsmouth just signed off on the company’s $83 million plan on Tuesday night. It will take the company about two years to set up its service. Construction is expected to begin next year.

As you can see from the map, Lumos will also be available in select Virginia Beach communities.

“We are very happy to be able to serve the underserved. Bringing the fiber that has proven so important during the pandemic for school children, for those working from home, for telehealth, etc.,” said Catherine Mosley, representative by Lumos.

The cost for this service will depend on what you want. 10 On Your Side learns that if you select the internet plan that promises around 500 megabits per second, considered by many in the industry to be very fast, it will cost you around $40 per month.
