In a new video on the Athlean-X channel, strength coach and CSCS trainer Jeff Cavaliere demonstrates a six-minute workout he says will absolutely ignite your abs and help you shred that six-pack.

Hands raised back (60 seconds): “Don’t think about pulling your knees to your chest,” advises Cavaliere. “Think of bringing your knees in toward your forehead… Get into that posterior pelvic tilt.”

Drunk Mountaineers (30 seconds): This variation brings the legs up and across your body, introducing an all-important rotational motion that engages the obliques as well as the abs. Because don’t forget: trunk rotation is one of the key functions of your abdominal muscles.

Cross planks on the knees (60 seconds): Just like mountain climbers, this exercise contracts the obliques if you do it correctly.

Rest for 30 seconds.

Scissor V-ups (60 seconds): Shearing your legs challenges the lower abs while forcing you to maintain a stable lower back and pelvis, while the V-up works your upper body in an up and down motion.

Starfish Cracks (30 seconds): With each rep here, the goal is to lift your upper body and legs, rotating your upper body so much that you can almost tap your opposite leg.

Rest for 30 seconds.

Upper circle crunches (30 seconds each direction): The key to this upper body-focused move is the shoulder blades, and make sure both are off the mat at the same time at the top end of the rep before you start rotating them again. Again, this ensures that you are working the obliques as well as the upper abs. After 30 seconds of performing this clockwise motion, do it for another 30 seconds, this time counterclockwise.

“It never gets easier,” says Cavaliere after completing the entire circuit. “If you can do another trick, you’re psychotic.”
