There was a change of guard at DC on July 12 as former Manchester and DC United star Wayne Rooney took over head coaching responsibilities from interim head coach Chad Ashton. Rooney inherited a team in last place in the Eastern Conference and began making moves in the MLS secondary transfer window. The club added talents such as striker Miguel Berry and defender Julian Gressel with Ochoa in goal.

Tuesday’s visitors are headlined by striker Taxiarchis Fountas who pace the club to 11 goals. He’s been sidelined the last three games while in concussion protocol. In those three matches, DC failed to score twice as Fountas leads the team in shots with 78, 43 more than second-highest player Ola Kamara. Despite shooting exponentially fewer than Fountas, Kamara has managed to find the back of the net nine times this season, including the opener in a 2-1 win at NYCFC. If Fountas is available, the Sporting defense and Pulskamp will look to snuff out the Greek first-year Designated Player. Otherwise, Kamara will have to be slowed down because he then becomes the target man.
